Shri Ramakrishna Paramhansha was one of the great phrophets of the world. His original Name was Gadadhan Chottopadhya. He was born in Kamarpukur in Hooghly District of West Bengal. He preached his teachins at the Temple of Dakshineswar. He had a belief that the aim of all religion was God-Realization. To him there was only one God although there were different names and forms of God. His Teachings had a great influence on Swami Vivekananda and Swami Abhedananda.
 
The Ramakrishna Math and Mission was founded in the year 1898. The Teachings of Shri Ramakrishnawas preached at the Ramakrishna Math whereas the Ramakrishna Mission was involvedin the field of the education and philanthropic services.

In Darjeeling, the Ramakrishna Vendanta Ashram was established in 1924. Later on in 1957, Shri Ramakrishna B.T. College was established to educate the educators of Darjeeling Hills. The College was completely managed by the Vedanta Ashram. The College was later on taken over by the Government of West Bengal as an aided (sponsored) College.

The College was affiliated to the Calcutta University since its inception and After the establishment of North Bengal University, the college was granted affiliation by the University of North Bengal from academic session 1962-63.
The college is one of the oldest B.T. College in North Bengal.
